Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that involves replacing or augmenting missing bone in order to repair bone fractures that are extremely complex, pose a significant health risk to the patient, or fail to heal properly. Bone grafting can also be used to rebuild bone structure and support teeth that have been damaged due to periodontal disease. During the procedure, a surgeon will take bone from another part of the patient’s body, or from a donor, and transplant it to the area that needs repair. The transplanted bone will then fuse with the existing bone, creating a stronger, more stable structure.
