Allergic conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin, clear membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye. It is caused by an allergic reaction to substances such as pollen, dust mites, animal dander, or mold. Symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis include red, itchy, and watery eyes, as well as a burning sensation.
