Viral conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye. It is caused by a virus, usually the same virus that causes the common cold. Symptoms include redness, itching, burning, tearing, and a watery discharge.
