PSCM Description
The PowerShares S&P SmallCap Materials Portfolio (Fund) is based on the S&P SmallCap 600® Capped Materials Index (Index). The Fund will normally invest at least 90% of its total assets in common stocks that comprise the Index. The Index is designed to measure the overall performance of common stocks of US basic materials companies. These companies are principally engaged in the business of producing raw materials, including paper or wood products, chemicals, construction materials, and mining and metals. The Index is a subset of the S&P SmallCap 600® Index, which is a float-adjusted, market-capitalization-weighted index reflecting the US small-cap market. The Fund and the Index are rebalanced and reconstituted quarterly.

The investment seeks long term-capital appreciation while also seeking to protect principal during unfavorable market conditions. The fund will seek to achieve its investment objective by using a broad and flexible investment strategy and may invest directly in different types of instruments, such as: stocks and bonds issued by public and private companies and bonds issued by governments and governmental agencies ("Direct Investments"); and shares of funds that invest directly in such instruments.
