Biotechnology is a segment of science that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses to develop or make products, or "any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use" (as defined by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity). Examples of biotechnology products include pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biofuels, and genetically modified crops.
