Treatment of pancreatic cancer depends on the stage of the cancer and the patient's overall health. Treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and/or immunotherapy. Surgery is the most common treatment for pancreatic cancer and may involve removing part or all of the pancreas. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be used before or after surgery to shrink the tumor or kill any remaining cancer cells. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy are newer treatments that use drugs to target specific molecules on cancer cells or to boost the body's immune system to fight the cancer.
