Treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) depends on the type of IBD, the severity of symptoms, and the individual patient. Treatment options may include medications, lifestyle changes, and/or surgery. Medications used to treat IBD include anti-inflammatory drugs, immunosuppressants, antibiotics, and biologic therapies. Lifestyle changes may include dietary modifications, stress management, and exercise. Surgery may be necessary in some cases.
