- Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy platelets, which are necessary for normal blood clotting. This can lead to easy bruising, bleeding from the nose and gums, and other symptoms. Treatment for ITP may include medications, platelet transfusions, or surgery.
