Treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) depends on the type and severity of the condition. Treatment options may include supportive care, such as blood transfusions, antibiotics, and medications to reduce the risk of infection; chemotherapy; and stem cell transplantation. In some cases, medications may be used to help the bone marrow produce more healthy blood cells.
