Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis is a type of dialysis that uses the lining of the abdomen, or peritoneum, and a cleansing solution called dialysate to filter waste, chemicals, and extra fluid from the blood. It is a treatment for people with kidney failure. During peritoneal dialysis, a catheter is placed in the abdomen and the dialysate is cycled in and out of the body to remove waste and extra fluid.
