New Feature: Intraday Alerts (and a Mobile App Coming Soon!)

March 12, 2018

Update: The SwingTradeBot mobile app has been released for both Android and iOS.

You may have seen some new links around the site today.  I've added some intraday alerts ito the mix.  These alerts are *near real time* -- they may be delayed from 1 - 20 minutes.  But I think they're still very useful, as long as you're not trying to be a scalper with them.

You'll be able to select from a list of things to which you want to be alerted.  This functionality is in beta now and it may be a little buggy.  I'll be tweaking things over the next few days.  So if you noticed anything weird please let me know.

Oh, I should add that these are only available on the US (Nasdaq, NYSE and Amex) version of the site.  That's because that's the only version of the site for which I have intraday quotes. (Edit on May 8th: They are now also available for the Australia/ASX, Canada and UK/LSE markets.)  If I can find a reasonbly priced quote source for Canada, Austrailia and the UK, then I'll turn on these alerts for those markets as well.

Here's the initial list of alerts:

  • Moving Average Breaks/Touches (10, 20, 50 & 200-day MAs)
  • Bollinger Band Breaks / Touches
  • Up / Down x% (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  • New 52 week high or low
  • Volume on pace for x times average (1.5, 2, 3, 5, 10)

You can choose and set these alerts at a watchlist or portfolio level.  Just use the new "Manage Intraday Alerts" button on your portfolios or watchlists.  There'a also a button on those pages to view those alerts.  Alternatively, you can view all your intraday alerts at once via the "Intraday Alerts" option under the "My Stocks" navigation menu.

I'm considering adding more of types of intraday alerts.  Things like:

  • Up or Down x ATRs
  • Made a new x-day high or low (where x could be 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90)
  • Chandelier Exit hit

Let me know if you have ideas for othere intraday alerts.

To start, you'll only be able to see these alerts on the site.  You'll have to refresh the page to get updates.  I've only been using them for two days and I'm already itching to get them pushed to me.  I may add an option to receive these as emails -- you'll be able to choose how frequently you want them sent.

The ultimate goal is to get these pushed to people's mobile devices.  And on that note, I've started working on an app version of SwingTradeBot (iOS and Android)!

I hope to get a very stripped down version of those apps released by the end of the month.  But in the mean time, email may be the way to get these alerts delivered to you.  So let me know if you'd like to get these alerts via email.  If not, I'll just save myself the trouble and only send them to myself. :-)

What I need is really simple, I want to create a watch list, then the internet site or app (on my PC desktop, preferably but smartphone app is fine too) should alert me whenever the stock on my watch list hits intraday high throughout the day, any help on this? thanks.

That's still on my to do list. For now, the only alerts which are pushed are those which occur on stocks in your watchlists & portfolios.

When I add the tyoe of notifications you asked about, I'll also filter them by (customizable) price per share and average volume. Otherwise people would be bombarded with alerts.

I know how to setup intraday alerts for a specific stock, but how do we setup alerts for things like "stocks which triggered: down 5%"? The list is shown here: https://swingtradebot.com/a... but I don't know how to get a notification when a new stock hits this list.

Best regards.

Unfortunately it's impossible to get intraday ASX quotes for a reasonable price .

i would love for you to add me on email alerts when ever they are available. You have a great platform to build on, One oyjer thing that I had asked a while back and you had told me that you are working on it, It is the back test and how it gives you the A, B ,C etc based on today's result and on the results of the day you are testing it for, any progress Thank you for everything

Thanks for responding, I figured price alerts would have to be predetermined first by the user and probably is more complex to integrate. However, both the apps and the alerts are definitely the way to go.

In regards of the RSI/Stochastic, I think your current scanners for 80/20 levels would work just fine for both or even crossing 90/10 for some stocks to get them in the extreme overbought /oversold territory. Don't sweat it though as I think your MAs and volume intraday alerts are already a fantastic tool to add to the website.
